17/03/2010
Nepal has announced that plans are in place to help battle the country's problems with child malnutrition.
Officials have said that action will be taken across a number of ministries, including the Health Ministry, Irin News reports.
The dilemma is so widespread, the news provider explains, that one in two children under the age of five suffer from the condition in the country.
Rajkumar Pokhrel, head of the government's nutrition programme at the Department of Health Services, said: "Multi-sectoral nutrition action has been planned
This was endorsed by several ministries recently and for the first time they will be working together actively."
Governmental representatives from women, local development, education and agriculture departments will be involved in scaling up the effort to promote feeding programmes for women and children.
Over 20 jailed Tibetan exiles in Nepal have gone on hunger strike this week in an effort to secure their release from holdings in Kathmandu, according to the Associated Press.
