Training and Orientation
Training for living and working on your
placement usually takes place in three stages: Personal departure
training and work-focused training before your departure,
and in- country training on your arrival.
Pre -departure training :
Pre-departure training usually takes
around 7 days . We are committed to helping you prepare
as fully as possible for your placement and , and pre-departure
training is an essential part of this preparation. The pre-departure
training has the following components.
Preparing for Change ( PFC) :
PFC will help you prepare for your placement and explore issues
around moving and working in a new environment and aims to
increase your understanding of the role of a VSO volunteer.
Wider role of volunteer (WRV)
:
This course introduces global development issues, VSO's development
approaches and how this effects your role and responsibilities
as a volunteer. You will find out how to make the most of
your learning opportunities while you are away, how to maximize
your understanding of the country and culture you will be
living in and the development opportunities and challenges
it faces.
Health and Security Workshop
:
This workshop covers personal health, well-being and safety
while you are on your placement. It explores general health
care and precautions as well as day-to-day strategies to minimize
the risk of threats to your security. You will receive country
specific briefings on medical and security issues and procedures
during in-country training.
Work Focussed Training:
We will also help you to organize trainings for any new skills
that you might need and to adapt existing skills for working
in a development context.
In-country training :
The in-country training programs are organized by the VSO
local country offices and the training broadly includes country
briefings and language learning.
