South Africa just recently completed its Strategic Country Planning for the period 2005-2009.
Program Aims
Vision: A South Africa without massive inequality, violence and poverty in which people of all race, class, age and gender have the opportunity to realise their full potential.
Mission : VSO South Africa seeks to promote and support development initiatives targeted at improving the lives of most disadvantaged communities in South Africa , through effective collaboration with local partners and organisations rooted in these communities and by supplying and supporting skilled and committed volunteer development workers.
Indian volunteers in South Africa
In the past one year 4 Indian volunteers have been placed in South Africa to work in the Development Sector in that country. And two more are going out in February 2006.
Neela Deshmukh is working as the Project Coordinator in a local NGO called the Kwazulu Natal Network on Violence Against Women. She is based in Durban .
Abhijit Bose on the other hand is living and working in the Township of Soweto just outside of Johannesburg . He is supporting an HIV/AIDS program which is working on raising awareness about the pandemic.
Sumit Bhattacharya has over 5 years of IT-industry experience as an IT trainer and analyst programmer. He is working as an IT coordinator in St. Joseph ’s care and support trust in Siznani Village in the north of the country.
Isaac Robert Rao is working as a Program Coordinator/Administrator at the Tshwane School of Hope in Pretoria .
