Application stage

iVolunteer Overseas (IVO) sends out messages for recruitment of VSO volunteers in India throughout the year. The messages include a description of the basic criteria and the skills that we are looking for with requests to interested candidates to send their CVs or download the application form, fill it in, and send it to us.

We also request all the candidates to tell us a date on which they will be available for telephonic interview. Once we have the received the filled in application form we review the form and conduct the telephonic interviews. We will confirm in advance the telephonic interviews.

Telephonic interview

The telephonic interview will last 20-30 minutes and in this interview we are trying to have a better understanding of your skill areas and your motivation for volunteering with VSO. You are encouraged to get in touch with serving/returned volunteers for any queries you may have.

After the telephonic interview the selected candidates are invited to an assessment day.

Contact details for serving and returned volunteers.

Assessment days

Based on the application forms and telephonic interview we shortlist candidates for volunteer assessment days. Assessment days are designed to identify personal qualities that are essential for volunteers to have a successful placement.

To meet the challenges of a VSO placement, you must be adaptable, sensitive to the needs of others and interested in immersing themselves in a culture that may be very different from what they are used to. VSO also looks for a certain degree of self-assurance, natural problem-solving ability and an aptitude for teamwork.

VSO’s selection dimension

A typical assessment day will include some interactive processes/group activities. As preparation for the assessment day, you are expected to have got in touch with the serving/returned volunteers, whose contact details are available on this website.

Please note that in the assessment day we will be talking about whom you contacted and what was discussed.

You will be required to take a day off from your normal routine to attend the assessment day. IVO will take care of your board and lodging while attending assessment days.
