Selection and matching stage
Candidates are selected as volunteers after the assessment day. We will let you know the results from your assessment day within ten days. If you are successful at the assessment day, the placement adviser will contact you and will begin the process of matching you to an appropriate placement.
Matching stage
All the VSO volunteers selected through iVolunteer Overseas (IVO) will be matched through a process that involves working with VSO partner organisations in each of the countries where VSO works.
IVO responds to the requests that emerge from this process by matching volunteers to placements where they can share their skills most effectively. Your placement adviser at IVO is your key contact and will work with you to identify an appropriate placement. After you are selected, you will have a chance to discuss your skills, experience and any personal issues that will need to be addressed.
Once you have been matched to a placement, you will identify your training needs together with your placement adviser. All placements are offered on the understanding that you will satisfactorily complete the required personal and professional training courses. There will be a series of pre-departure training workshops, which will orient you to your work as a VSO volunteer overseas.
Medical clearance
All volunteers need to get a medical clearance from the IVO doctor before they depart for their placements. Volunteers will also be required to take certain vaccinations as advised by the IVO doctor.
